Buying a bat for 11U travel
More weekend volume, tighter drop notes — stamp first, then a stick they can whip. Reviewed October 23, 2026.
1. Stamp reality at 11U
Most 11U travel circuits still lean USSSA BPF 1.15. Rec and some midweek leagues stay USA.
- Travel-only: Permanent USSSA 1.15 is usually right. Read USSSA bat rules.
- Split schedule: Two bats (USA + USSSA) is common — or filter tournaments that allow USA. See USA vs USSSA.
- PG / Triple Crown / big venues: Often multi-stamp with age-specific drop caps. Start at Perfect Game, Triple Crown, Bullpen / Grand Park.
2. Length and drop at 11U
- Drop: −10 is still the travel default. Stronger hitters step to −8; −5 is for kids who already swing a heavier barrel cleanly — not a status symbol.
- Length: Many land around 29–31″. Hip/waist check, then watch BP and games. Late barrels = shorter or lighter, not “just get used to it.”
- Tournament pages sometimes ban certain drops by age even when the stamp is legal — check the event sheet, not just the bat sticker.
3. BBCOR is still the wrong aisle
BBCOR −3 bats belong to high-school / older travel (BBCOR / NFHS). 11U shoppers should stay in youth USA/USSSA alloy and composite. “HS ready” copy on youth pages is marketing, not a sizing tip.
At this age, mid-to-upper composites are more reasonable than at 8U — length and drop often hold for a full season if you size carefully.
4. Honest price bands
- ~$80–150: Solid alloy or entry composite for growing kids.
- ~$150–280: Typical travel composite range parents actually use weekend after weekend.
- $300+: Flagship territory — fine if stamp/drop/length are locked and the bat will see heavy tournament use.
We don’t invent “in stock” prices — compare retailers below.
5. Models parents often compare
Legality assumes the correct stamp is intact and your event allows that stamp/drop. Always confirm.

6. Quick checklist before you pay
- Stamp matches the strictest rule on your season schedule.
- Drop is allowed for 11U on each tournament page — not just “USSSA stamped.”
- Player can swing it without dragging; −8 only if they’ve earned it in BP.
- Coach or team parent signs off on multi-stamp weekends.
