Core requirements

Licensed bat manufacturers (USSSA list, updated late 2025) include Axe, DeMarini, Easton, Louisville Slugger, Marucci, Mizuno, Rawlings, Victus, Warstic, and others.

Some orgs (e.g. certain Perfect Game age brackets) allow USABat or BBCOR in addition to USSSA, or ban specific drops like −5 at 12U. Never assume — check that weekend’s rule sheet.

Barrel size by age Published limits

Maximum barrel diameter (inches) commonly published for this program. Length and drop limits are separate — check the notes.

Age / divisionMax barrelNotes
Small barrel (any age where allowed)≤ 2¼″USSSA mark (or wood) from licensed manufacturer
Big barrel — 14U & below2⅝″ or 2¾″USSSA 1.15 mark, BBCOR, or wood (licensed)
Big barrel — 15U & above2⅝″ or 2¾″NFHS BBCOR mark or wood (licensed); youth USA/USSSA stamps alone are not enough
Drop notes (national bylaws)See notes13U max drop −8 (Elite WS tighter); 14U national standard moving to −3 BBCOR with state −5 exceptions

USSSA classifies small (≤2¼″) vs big (2⅝″/2¾″) barrels rather than banning 2¾″ in youth. Event directors and states often add tighter drop/barrel caps — read the event page.
