What size bat for a 12-year-old (12U)

Short answer for most 12-year-olds: 30–31 inches, with drop −10 or −8 depending on strength. Reviewed October 23, 2026.

1. The short answer

Manufacturer age bands put 11–12-year-olds at 30–31″. Many 12U travel players still swing −10; stronger kids step to −8. Between lengths, prefer the shorter bat they can get through the zone on time.

Weights assume the listed drop (weight ≈ length − |drop|). Real bats can vary ~0.5–1 oz with grip and manufacturing.

3. Drop notes

−10 remains common; stronger 12U hitters should start moving to −8 if they control it. USSSA events may tighten drop limits as kids approach 13U — always check the event bat tab.

4. Stamp / league check

Destination travel (Cooperstown-style weekends) often needs USA even if weekday travel is USSSA. Plan stamps before you buy — see 12U travel guide.
